Maker’s Asylum has developed a low cost powered-air purifying respirator (PAPR) for use in reducing exposure to airborne particles. This PAPR is designed to provide constant filtered airflow to healthcare workers in high risk environment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The M-19 initiative started with a thought of giving only 1000 M-19 shields to the frontline workers. However, in 49 days we were able to activate 42 cities, towns and villages through our open source design and give over 1 Million M-19 face shields through #theM19Collective.

Eager to help keep India's healthcare workers safe during the # COVID19 pandemic, Maker's Asylum Mumbai decided to take on the challenge of designing and manufacturing 1 million face shields. With the help of 23 other labs across India, here's how Vaibhav Chhabra and his team plan to rise to the challenge.

Maker's Asylum, an innovation hub based out of Mumbai has been manufacturing face shields for doctors, police personnel, and other frontline workers who are exposed to the risk of COVID-19. Just as the lockdown was announced, they started researching on different methods of producing masks quickly, and came up with the 'M-19' face shield design.
In 2020, the M19 Maker network, spread all over India, managed to produce 1 million low-cost face shields in just a few weeks to help frontline health workers fighting the first wave of Covid19 across India.
