Problem Statement

Bob is a 20 year-old student attending the University of Paris. Coming from a middle class family, he often consumes fast food, which is relatively cheaper, and easily available. Burdened with college work, Bob has very little time to spare on physical activity. He prefers playing video games to sports. He wants to include exercise in his daily routine but needs a cheap and enjoyable solution.

Solution

In order to solve our problem statement, we decided to gamify fitness. Most people, and our target audience specifically, enjoy playing games. Therefore, we decided to make an app that requires people to move around in order to progress in the game.

Prototypes

Documentation divided by iterations (Pictures / code / drawings / text)

  1. Trivia treasure hunt:
    1. The game would be an online treasure hunt platform. In order to get the next clue, the team needs to go to a certain specified location.
    2. Difficult to organise rounds with people over an online platform, not enough of an incentive for someone to move around.
    3. We realised that we needed to make the game more enjoyable, progress based, and relatable to the target audience (college going students)

  1. Healthy food finder:
    1. An app that would notify you about nearby healthy restaurants. When you enter a fastfood restaurant, it pings you and shows u healthy options close by.
    2. Not convincing enough, unoriginal because google maps can be used for something similar.
    3. We learnt that we need to make something unique, and focus on making people move more instead of trying to convince them to eat better.

  1. Outdoor Laser Tag:
    1. A concept of outdoor laser tag, using infra red radiations from your phone in order to “shoot” other players and win points.
    2. The infra red light cannot be used during the bright sun, the game may cause accidents
    3. We learnt that we should make a simple, app-based game instead.

  1. Move:

Sam: coding: how to track phone GPS and upload data to server

Ylane: making the app

Aditya:  coding

Nakul:  graphics + game design
User Interface:

We started by making a paper prototype of the app, which we would replicate later.

Before making the app, we used Figma and Adobe XD in order to make a “dummy” UI so that we could display how our app would look on completion.

We then presented these ideas to the other workshop members and also to some of Vaibhav’s friends who were differently-abled. This gave us some insight into our own thought process and how it could be made better.
