DiscoVR is a new virtual reality solution at the service of historical sites. The objective is to promote the sites and sensitize visitors to the degradation of the monument over time by giving a real time experience. The immersive experience will make the visitors take part in the preservation of their monuments.
Our persona called Yashaya (like Sandesh’s son) is a travel enthusiast, he likes new technologies and wants to protect his heritage. He’s a middle class worker, and lives in the city. Like all the young people of his generation he loves immersive and dynamic experience, he wants to have a unique experiment when he visits a new place.
1: The difficulty we faced is that we did not have a single experience of VR/game designing and then we had to start from nothing. That is why we decided to use some open source 3D models in order to have a clear vision of access to the 3D version of gateway of India.
2: After that, we decided to work on the already made structure and to add an environment to it. We mainly succeded by using different tutorials and succeded in creating and entire environment of the monument and its surroundings. After many failures, we finally succeded in doing our first VR app that actually worked !
3: Now that all the set up was optimal, we decided to refine our design and add many functions to it. For example, we use a VR script that permits us to move within the environment we created. That was so exciting, and it works well! We then focused to improve the environment of the design and add many 3D pieces to make it more realistic.

We then presented these ideas to the other workshop members and also to some of Vaibhav’s friends who were differently-abled. This gave us some insight into our own thought process and how it could be made better.
