Problem Statement

Cricket bowlers, especially beginners, often lack real-time feedback to improve their bowling technique. Traditional coaching relies on visual judgment or video review, which is delayed, subjective, and not always accessible.
Without accurate feedback on impact force, foot placement, or consistency, players may develop flawed techniques, increasing their risk of injury and limiting performance.

There is a need for a smart, sensor-based solution that provides instant, data-driven feedback to help bowlers improve with confidence and precision.

 

Idea

Develop a smart cricket mat equipped with piezoelectric vibration sensors to detect and analyze footfall and delivery force. The system processes the vibration data through a microcontroller (Arduino/ESP32) and provides real-time insights into the bowler’s performance.

This enables players to receive immediate, objective feedback and supports coaches in delivering data-backed guidance. The system is also gamified for enhanced engagement and training motivation.

 Final Solution

Bowl Buddy is a compact, portable sensor-enabled mat designed to sit on the bowler’s delivery stride zone. It includes:

  • Piezo sensors embedded across the mat to capture impact zones

  • Microcontroller-based system (ESP32/Arduino) to read and process sensor data

  • Data visualization interface that shows force magnitude, foot consistency, and hit location

  • Gamified feedback system that rewards accuracy and consistency over time

  • Future-ready modular design that can be expanded to include pressure mapping, gesture tracking, or app-based analytics

This cricket-tech solution enables coaches, players, and academies to elevate training with smart feedback, real-time analytics, and DIY scalability.
