River Cleanup Boat v1.1

Problem Statement:

In India, there are many small rivers and water bodies that are filled with garbage and trash due to reasons like lack of awareness or even the multiple celebrations and festivals celebrated here. This has increased the surface level pollution in these rivers which gives way to several new problems. Some being the disruption of the marine ecosystem and the disturbance of the livelihood of fishermen. This surface level garbage can get stuck in the nets of these fishermen, leading to the degradation of their income, thus the economy. Therefore, to prevent this, a small-scale, sustainable river clean-up device helps in these vulnerable areas.

Idea:

A sustainable, smart, and efficient device that reduces the surface level pollution on small rivers, helping to prevent the disruption of the biological cycle of aquatic animals and the livelihood of fishermen.

Objectives of the Project:

  • Collect small amounts of garbage at the surface
  • Create a buoyant base using PVC pipes and foam
  • Motors that will propel the device in different directions to guide it to the nearest trash
  • Code the motors in a way that it can change direction
  • Use bluetooth and an app creator to make it more accessible to everyone
  • Attach net to collect garbage
  • Use acrylic basing to hold the electrical components.

Final Project Idea:

An arduino based device that cleans up surface level trash through a net. It is controlled using an app and bluetooth so its directions can be altered.
