Innovation School Easter Egg #2

Looks like you found this hidden Easter egg page ? Awesome! Here are some ideas to get you started with hacking your Innovation School projects. Have fun #MakeBreakCreate

If you’re reading this page, then it’s obvious that you’ve cracked the Easter Egg on your Innovation School kits, uncovered the QR code, and followed the link that brings you here.

Well done !! Now that you’ve built and assembled your Innovation School kits, we wanted to get you started with hacking your projects. We’ve thought of a few ideas, presented below, but feel free to improve on these, or even better – come up with and awesome idea of your own and let us know. Experiment with the objects, materials and tools you have and consider this as your first foray in the world of “making, breaking and creating”

Kit Box Hacking

An exciting project you can build using the large Innovation School box is the BobbleHead aka Magnificator. It amplifies and makes your face large, and is sure to be a great prop at a party or gathering for some amazing photographs.

Materials required:

  • Innovation School large box
  • Fresnel lens, A4 size
  • Masking tape / adhesive tape / glue gun
  • box cutter or kniofe
  • LED’s or LED strips with White LEDs
  • Power source for the LEDs
  • Switch

The lid of the box is cut like a frame such that the Fresnel lens can be stuck to it from the inside using tape, glue or hot glue. The bottom of the box is cut with an opening big enough such that the box can slide around your neck. There ought to be a handy outline on the box to help make the cut.

On the inside of the lid, fix the LEDs. If you are using discrete white 5mm LEDs, wire up three LEDs in series, and stick then on the left side of the lid on the inside. Repeat be adding two more branches, one at the top, and another on the right. Then, connect all three branches in parallel to a 9V battery. Optionally, you can hook up a slide switch to help turn on – off the LEDs.

Wear the box around your neck, switch on the LEDs on the lid, and then close the box with the lid. The Fresnel lens should be in front of your face. Watch everyone around you get excited and burst out laughing when they see your magnified face.

If you end up hacking your projects and kit boxes based on the ideas above, we would love to hear back from you with your experience and do share photographs of your work.
