Idea
Table tennis is a fun sport that many people play for leisure and many people play it
extremely seriously as well. For our Innovation School residency, our idea will be to help both of these sets of players. One simple idea that we had that will help all TT players both leisure players and serious players is that we could have some sort of microphone or pressure sensor system that detects the decibel level of the noise that is made and then the LED colours keep changing colours to make it a
fun Innovative Table Tennis table. This is an extremely rough idea and we will be making some changes to improve this idea.
Problem Statement
No matter who you are, everyone likes to have fun and these days many people struggle to
find the time to have fun with friends and family. Our idea makes it extremely simple and
quick as the LED lights will give people entertainment, this gives people a time where they
can take time to wind down and relax.

Constraints/Problems
- The microphone should be able to detect noises clearly from under a tablebb5
- All the connections that we made should work extremely well
- The LEDs need to show the correct colour based on the readings that we get from the
microphone
Solutions Brainstorming
Both of us had many ideas that we thought would solve the problem. A few of them were
that we would buy pressure sensors and stick 2 to the bottom of the table on each side and
then make a box where we would keep our arduino and stick that to the bottom of the table
as well, in this box there would be holes where the wires could pass through and connect the
pressure sensors to the arduino, this would function as the higher the number from the
readings of the pressure sensor the harder the shot was hit onto the TT table and the higher
the reading gets the LED on the side of the table keeps changing colours from yellow to
green and then to red. Another idea that we had was that we are doing the same idea but
instead of using pressure sensors we will use a microphone and we will follow the same
steps that we followed for the pressure sensors, but we thought that the microphone woud
give us better and more precise results.
Final Solution
Our solution is that we will use a TT table and attach one microphone on each side of the
table. This microphone will detect the level of noise a TT ball makes when it bounces on the
table and based on the readings, we will have an LED that displays a certain colour. This
was the main idea that we had as it relates to all players and everyone could use it without any struggle. It can make the table tennis table look very pleasing and while playing it gives
the players even more entertainment than they would get from playing table tennis normally.
